Velma Season 1- Episode 9 and 10: Recap and Ending Explained: Diya Dinkley was alive. Also, the brains of Krista, Brenda, and Lola were talking from their individual containers. While Diya Dinkley made it back, she could not reveal the identity of the person behind the crimes.
Velma Episode 9: Family Wo(Man)- Recap
The episode began at Crystal Cove Hospital, where Fred, Velma, Daphne, Norville, and their parents were present. Sophie and Amanda were also there, but Velma removed them from the room. Diya Dinkley had amnesia, and her memory of the killer could only return within 72 hours. Hence, Velma decided to let her mother return to familiar locations. This saw her turn the Dinkley house into a “dump” and ask Sophie and Amanda to move out. Diya remembered Sophie as the person Aman would constantly stare at.
When Velma returned her mother’s glasses, it triggered a memory. Velma then opened the gift her mother gave her and discovered red shoes. Diya finally asked her daughter to show her the report cards to prove nothing had changed. This proved to be problematic, as Velma’s life had changed. Her grades fell, her best friend ditched her, and she got neglected at home.

A selfish Velma interrupted Norville during his fencing championship as she asked him to doctor report cards for her. This cost him the title, but he remained a good friend and helped her.
That night, Sophie and Amanda returned, and Diya saw them. Velma then said she was the baby’s mother, and Norville was the father. She diverted Diya’s attention by displaying the report cards. This saw Diya calm down somewhat and accept her ‘granddaughter.’ Diya then remembered that she attacked the bats when she visited the Jones Manor to find Dr. Edna Perdue.
Once Velma and Norville ‘accepted’ Amanda was their baby, Diya wondered why Sophie was around.
Meanwhile, ‘The Brains’ massively ruined Daphne and Fred’s popularity. This saw the duo fake a relationship as they had experienced a popularity surge together in the past. It worked, and ‘The Brains’ lost command of the student body.
Diya remembered the welder once in the basem*nt of Jones Manor. At the school, Velma tried to make Norville print a headline so she could show herself in a good light before her mother. However, Norville refused to compromise his journalistic integrity.
She then visited counselor Lamont Rogers’ office and saw a welder’s mask. This made her suspicious, and his general line of inquiry only drove home the point. Hence, Velma got law enforcement and the army to barge into Rogers’ home. It was actually Norville’s birthday that Velma had not only forgotten but also ruined. Courtesy of the army tank, Norville’s house was also destroyed.
Daphne and Fred’s popularity saw them get an invitation to ‘The Brains’ reunion party. The Brain trio then dared Daphne and Fred to kiss to prove they weren’t faking their relationship. Velma saw that and was upset as Daphne promised to attend the party with her. When Velma said she came there to return Amanda to her mother, Diya showed up and pieced the puzzle.
Diya then had a flashback and claimed that she was a serial killer.
Velma Episode 10: The Brains of the Operation – Recap
Diya Dinkley got taken away. She confessed she did the crime to put a popular girl’s brain in Velma’s head. Daphne’s moms told Velma that she would have to get arrested for talking to Diya, as Inspector Cogburn would not allow her anywhere close. This was because he didn’t want his case to be messed up.
Daphne searched for Velma and asked Norville for help, but he was furious and refused. When Daphne opened her locker, she found a geode and a pocket watch. It was from her mother, who managed to get away from the killer. A note informed Daphne that the pocket watch belonged to the killer.
With Fred’s help, Velma got arrested and taken to a cell. Diya kept repeating her confession and made her daughter realize that she was hypnotized. Cogburn took Diya away to her sentencing, and Daphne arrived up to meet Velma and showed her the pocket watch. The duo saw that it belonged to a person named Harry Meeting, i.e., head of the SCOOBI project. Upon seeing the pocket watch, Velma’s hallucinations returned, and she remembered that it was because she got hypnotized by the welder. She concluded that all her reactions were due to that.
Daphne apologized for kissing Fred. She then got taken in a limo as Mr. Jones watched on.
Velma took the pocket watch and confronted the girls in the shower. They didn’t know who owned the watch and told her Norville had left the school. A guilty Velma finally played two years’ worth of Norville’s voice notes. One of them gave her a clue. Jones Gentlemen’s Accessories made her glasses, i.e., the same company that manufactured Harry Meeting’s pocket watch.
This led Velma to break into the Jones manor, and she sent her father to get the cops. To save Daphne and Fred, Velma went down the well and ended up in the Crystal Cove Mines. She discovered an underground lab where Daphne and Fred were strapped.
As Velma tried to free Daphne, the welder arrived and tried to knock her out. Velma sprayed perfume on the welder and then drew the bats into the cave courtesy of her voice. This gave her the opening to punch the welder.
Velma Episode 10: The Brains of the Operation- Ending Explained
Velma spoke about the three murders- while two of them were to frame her, the third kept her in the clear. Only one person benefited from the third murder, which dramatically shortened the suspect list.

Victoria Jones was the person behind the welder’s mask. She killed Brenda, Krista, and Lola and took Fred from Fog Fest. Velma revealed that Victoria Jones went as Victoria Meeting before marrying into the Jones family. Victoria Meeting was the daughter of Harry Meeting- the man who betrayed Dr. Edna Perdue and tarnished the name of the Rogers family.
Why did Victoria Jones do the brain experiment?
Victoria Jones did the brain experiment because she wanted to replace her incompetent son’s brain with one from a confident and popular person. This would ensure that her heir (or just his body) took over the family business and made confident decisions for its betterment (courtesy of someone else’s brain).

Project SCOOBI was successful, but Harry Meeting tried to take over the credit. Of course, this saw Dr. Edna Perdue hide her research and reverse the project. Without the research and with Dr. Perdue’s silence, Meeting couldn’t pull off the research and saw his project shut down.

Although Victoria Jones was tied, she received help in the form of a hypnotized Mr. Jones.
