Ex 4.3 ,3Find the roots of the following equations:(i) x – 1/𝑥=3,𝑥≠0 x – 1/𝑥=3(𝑥(𝑥) − 1 )/𝑥 = 3(𝑥^2 − 1 )/𝑥 = 3 x2 – 1 = 3x x2 – 3x – 1 = 0Comparing equation with ax2 + bx + c = 0So, a = 1, b = –3, c = –1We know thatD = b2 – 4ac D = ( –3)2 – 4×1×−1D = 9 + 4 D = 13 Hence, roots to equation are given by x = (− 𝑏 ± √𝐷)/2𝑎 Putting values x = (− (− 3) ± √13)/(2 × 1)x = (3 ± √13)/2Hence, roots to equation are x = (3 + √13)/2 or x = (3 − √13)/2
