Sioux City Parks and Recreation will host an official park dedication and ribbon cutting event on Thursday, June 20, 2024 to celebrate the completion of the $12 million Chris Larsen Park Riverfront Redevelopment project. Activities will take place at the Floyd Shelter in Chris Larsen Park, located at 700 S. Floyd Boulevard. Starting at 12:00 p.m., the public is invited to enjoy a free yoga session, explore lawn games offered on the rec lawn, play a pickup game of basketball, and try out one of the new exercise features. There will be food trucks available to grab a bite to eat. The park dedication and ribbon cutting will begin at 1:00 p.m. Events will be held rain or shine. Parking will be available at Chris Larsen Park and the STF Expo Center.

Women in the Woods Summer Solstice Hike
June 21 at 6pm
Women in the Woods Summer Solstice Hike, 6:00 p.m., Stone State Park. Are you a woman interested in hiking, but don’t like going alone? This hike is for women ages 18 and up and is designed to encourage women to explore the trails of Stone Park in a comfortable setting. The group will be led by a Woodbury County Naturalist who will also share some nature knowledge along the way. This is a moderate 3-mile hike through hilly terrain. We will enjoy hiking in the extended hours of daylight of the summer solstice, which is on June 20th. Meet in the Equestrian Day-Use Area parking lot at the East entrance (off Memorial Drive). Mardi Gras returns to for the summertime tradition to Downtown Sioux City on Friday, July 5 with the 2024 Sioux City Mardi Gras Parade. Registration is now open for anyone who’d like to sign up their group or organization for the parade. Those interested can download a registration form atTysonCenter.com or contact the Primebank Box Office at the Tyson Events Center. Bring your family & friends for FREE fun when the Mardi Gras Parade kicks off at 6:00 p.m. The parade will start at the Tyson Events Center, making a left out of the parking lot onto Pierce Street. Continuing to Pierce Street route will turn right on 3RD Street, ending on Iowa Street. Tens of thousands of beads will be thrown into the crowds that line the streets – get your spot early!

Buffalo Alice First Annual Golf Classic

Are you ready to party…we mean golf. We are having our first ever golf tournament at Green Valley and just like everything else we do, it is going to be AWESOME.
It will be $240 per four man team. The tournament will be played in three flights all with payouts to the top three teams. You will also have the option to choose your pairing team! The payouts are going to be BIG, so make sure you get signed up before all of the slots are gone. If you don’t pay when you register, you won’t be signed up.
We are partnering with the Siouxland Humane Society so all of the proceeds are going straight to them! There will be hole prizes, game advantages, and pets available for adoption. That’s right. Golf, beer, and dogs. What’s better? So while you are having a good time, you can also give back to all of those homeless animals. And did we mention the HUGE PAYOUTS?
Lunch will be available for purchase and dinner will be provided afterwards by Buffalo Alice and Hyvee at the Clubhouse. It will be a shotgun start at 1pm on July 27th. So get singed up before its too late and you miss the party.

Adams Homestead Celebration

On August 14, 1997, Adams Homestead & Nature Preserve officially opened as a state park. We mark this very special occasion by having an annual festival on or around this day. This year Saturday, August 12, 2023 has been selected as our festival date. Event will run from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. There are many exciting activities that are scheduled throughout the day. Some of the activities include threshing machine demo, corn shelling, candlemaking, tin punching, homestead tours, rope making, musicians, buffalo chip throwing contest, rope making, Dutch Oven Cooking Demo, homemade pie contest, and much, much more! Those interested in participating in the homemade pie judging contest need to bring their pies to Adams Homestead by 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 12. The pie judging will start at 1:30 p.m. Pies will be judged by their appearance, texture, and taste. Plan to spend the entire day at Adams. We will have food and refreshments that you may purchase while enjoying your day of FREE entertainment. There will be activities, presentations, music, and crafts for the ENTIRE family to enjoy and take part in. Get a sense of history, learn about your heritage and explore the outdoors! Bring your walking shoes, bikes, strollers and your love for the great outdoors and we will do the rest! We are located off Interstate 29 Exit 4, 1-mile west, and ½ mile south. Family Archery Night

Come on out to the Adams Homestead Archery Range and learn a fun, new skill or practice one you’ve already learned. We will teach you the basics skills of archery and practice shooting targets. 5th Annual Car and Truck show, will be held at WinnaVegas Casino Resort in Sloan, IA
Show will start from 11 A.M. to 9 P.M. We will be having 2 out of state groups coming this year that will be announced at a later date. This year we will have a larger stage for the live music so it can be heard from all the way in the back of the show with better audio! Their will be food venders, and a few product vendors like detailing products ,wheels and tires. Show trophies will be given out again for a few categories that later will be announced. Show shirts will be available from S to 3XL $25 each while supplies last. Registration fees: $40 per vehicle entry $20 per spectator 12 and under are free. No burn outs!! You will be asked to leave if you are doing burn outs. Their will be a beer garden as well on show ground! Venders and sponsors are still welcome.
